Okay, this one needs a little explanation.
These pictures were taken at a house party for a lady who was celebrating her 50th birthday in a place called Brampton--a bizarre little suburb located just outside of Metropolitan Toronto.
I spent many of my younger years in Brampton which is famous for landmarks like Professors Lake -- a giant hole that was once a gravel pit and then a graveyard for old cars until a water main broke and it became 'a lake.' It's now stocked with sunfish and giant leeches that can be caught with cans of corn nibblets.
It has a wildly varied immigrant and class population, and every now and then, someone commits suicide in some spectacular way. One winter in 1993, for instance, this guy who was having problems with his wife stole a bunch of dynamite from the construction company he was working at, strapped it to his body and blew himself up at Chris Gibson park--leaving a huge pink crater and body parts strewn all around the nearby school. A year later someone found a finger and sued the city for trauma.
On Wednesday,May 28, 1975 a 16-year-old student took a shotgun to Brampton Centennial high school, shot 15 people (then himself) and set a standard for school shootings in North America and changed gun laws in Canada forever.
The entire city actually sits on a lot of Native Canadian burial grounds which probably accounts for the haunted Jumbo video store and weird tasting water in the downtown area.
Anyway, I don't know the people in the photographs but after the DJ started playing I wished I had met them long before when I still lived in that town...slowly going insane.
Sideways dancing by the encyclopedia's. How can you beat that?
