"I know, lets put it in the ferris wheel!"

Here's something you don't see every day--a creepy abandoned amusement park left to rot in the center of town--in this case--Berlin.

I first heard about this place from my friend Tobias from SEEN who sent me a link to a weird German rap video that featured a guy named Sido hanging around the abandoned park wearing a silver skull.

So, since I'm in Berlin I decided to go check the place out and see if its as strange as it appears in the Sido video. What I found, however, was a far more interesting story than the remains of the park itself.

Apparently the person who owned the park--a guy named Norbert Witte--was sentenced to seven years in jail for attempting to smuggle 180kg of cocaine with a value of $14 million from Peru to Germany in the masts of the "flying carpet" ride (one of Spreepark's many attractions). And in October 2006 a Peruvian court sentenced Wittes' son, Marcel Witte, to 20 years for drug smuggling.

Needless to say, the park remains closed.
